A meeting held with the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation to Azerbaijan

On July 21, the Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Assistance Mr. Ali Hasanov met with the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation to Azerbaijan Denise Duran. During the meeting Ali Hasanov expressed the concern of Azerbaijan to Denise Duran that there is no information up to date about the fate of Azerbaijanis who were taken as hostages by Armenia. He said that all these issues are in the spotlight of the President Ilham Aliyev from the first day. During the meeting, it was mentioned that these people are displaced from their native lands. The reason why they went there is homesickness and at the same time, to visit the graves of their loved ones. These people were taken as hostages by occupying forces in the borders of the territory of Azerbaijan recognized by UNO. They did not violate boundaries and international norms and principles. However, Armenia has different views not corresponding to the reality about these people and they blame these people to be saboteur and criminal group and avoid applying the provisions arising from the Geneva Convention “on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War” in 1949, in their attitudes to them.
